We have well-marked forest trails that bring you close to wildlife, and others that start in the heritage downtown and follow the streaming Ganaraska River or take you to panoramic lookouts along the waterfront. Or take the Glorious Ganaraska cycling route that takes you past farm fields and historic buildings with fantastic views of the Ganaraska River and Lake Ontario.
Nature up close at local conservation areas
Come for the Insta-worthy photo ops, the greenery, birds and wild turkeys in our local conservations areas, like the 90-acre Port Hope Conservation Area tucked beside the Ganaraska River just north of the fish ladder at Corbett's Dam. The Sylvan Glen Conservation Area is a secluded nature lover's hangout for a walk along the path by the Ganaraska River and a picnic. And the Ganaraska Millennium Conservation Area has trails along the Molson Pond area and along the Ganaraska River north of County Road 28 and Highway 401. See environmentally protected demo sites along with native grasses and flowers.
You can also discover our sandy beaches for swimming, boating or just relaxing in the sunshine.
