Port Hope Travel Guide, Part 3

– Tuesday 28 August 2018 by Stenoodie Port Hope Travel Guide, Part 3

August 18-19, 2018: I had another best and amazing weekend in Port Hope, Ontario! ^_^ Port Hope is a small town east of Toronto (about an hour’s drive on a clear day), which houses a population of 16,500 with shops, restaurants, a river running through the town, and widely regarded as having one of the best-preserved main streets in Ontario. I have visited several times now and each time I still find so much to do and leave with so many fond memories.

On this weekend getaway, we began our trip with another fun outdoor excursion at Treetop Treeking Ganaraska (10585 Cold Springs Camp Rd, Campbellcroft, ON). On this visit, we had three hours’ time to go through the obstacles courses (called “games”) as well as the zip lines.

After exercising our upper arm strength, we re-energized with lunch at Olympus Burger (55 Mill St S, Port Hope, ON). Olympus Burger is a Greek mythology themed burger joint situated in downtown Port Hope that was featured on the “You Gotta Eat Here” TV show as well as voted with the best burger in Canada in 2017.

After lunch, we headed back north towards Peterborough to check into our bed and breakfast. Arrangements had been made for us at Woodland Garden Bed and Breakfast (8250 Woodland Ave, Campbellcroft, ON) where we ended up having the most hospitable hostess who served us delicious specialty Finnish entrées for breakfast.

After exploring the bed and breakfast and resting for a bit, we headed for dinner at Local No90 (90 Mill St N, Port Hope, ON). This bar and grill serves artisan savoury pies, local shareable dishes, with wine on tap, local beers, and cocktails.

You can read about the meal that we enjoyed at Local No90 here.

We next headed to the Capitol Theatre (20 Queen St, Port Hope, ON) a few minutes away from the restaurant to watch The Little Mermaid musical. What a great pleasure it was to watch a musical theatre production in the heart of downtown Port Hope! The Capitol Theatre is the only remaining functioning atmospheric theatre in Canada!

This was another amazing weekend in Port Hope and as I’ve said before, there is still more to try and experience in Ontario’s favourite small town!! It’s definitely worth planning a road trip there for a full weekend getaway. My travel guides are only a tip of the iceberg of what you can see and experience in Port Hope.

There are so many delicious restaurants serving locally sourced food, antique shops to browse through, and fun things to do for the young and old. August and September are their most popular months of the year to visit as the salmon migration also gears up for many out-of-town guests to enjoy.
